Daryl Gasca, DDS, MSD
Periodontist
Dr. Gasca has expanded his reach as a professional and practitioner by striving to diversify his background in both research and clinical experience. In addition to his research, he has both worked in his own private practice and within general dental offices as an independent contractor. Through these experiences, Dr. Gasca believes patient care can be lifted to a higher level with a closer look at a new model of collaboration between specialists and general dentistry.
Dr. Gasca received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biochemistry, Biophysics and Molecular Biology at Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA. At Whitman College, he completed his thesis research pertaining to protein markers in neuron synapses. This research was intended to expand the knowledge of interactions between neural cell communication, which mimics numerous drug pathways in neurological diseases.
He further went on to attend New York University’s College of Dentistry where he graduated with honors. Upon graduation he was inducted as a member of the National Dental Honor Society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon. While attending dental school he continued research to compliment his clinical education. Dr. Gasca’s research included using botulin-toxic (BOTOX) to help establish means for treating trigeminal neuralgia. In addition, he presented nationally on another topic relating to an autoimmune disease, Sjogren’s Syndrome: “Mechanisms of Calcium Mobilization Induced By Stimulation Of Muscarinic Receptors In Salivary Gland Cells.”
Dr. Gasca pursued his specialty training and earned his certificate in periodontics at the University of Washington in Seattle. Here Dr. Gasca also completed his master’s thesis. His research topic and thesis focused on a clinical scenario which occurs commonly during dental implant surgery: “Correcting Buccal Bone Dehiscence Type Defects around dental implants using autogenous bone with and without a collagen membrane. A randomized control clinical trial.”
Since graduating Dr. Gasca has experienced two models of practicing periodontics. One model having co-owned a private periodontal practice with three full-time periodontists and 14 other staff members. This practice had grown to receive referrals from over 30 general dentists in southeast Aurora, CO. After selling this practice, Dr. Gasca sought to challenge himself through joining a larger corporation to grow a periodontal program in the state of New Mexico. In the one-year Dr. Gasca was in New Mexico, he was able to strengthen relationships with 11 different general dentist’s offices, increase quality of patient care with a 99% success rate in surgery and nearly double the size of the periodontal programs in 9 out of 11 offices. The strong relationships with the general dentists, hygienist, administrative staff, and back-office staff were the key differences to develop excellence in a periodontal program. This model of in-house specialty brought Dr. Gasca a new understanding of how patients can more easily receive periodontal services within the comfort of their existing office.
In his free time, Dr. Gasca loves being outdoors as much as possible with his wonderful wife, Sarah. Whether this includes fly-fishing, golfing, biking, hiking, or training for his next race, Dr. Gasca loves being outside and in the sunshine.
